Our Services section highlights the wide range of professional solutions we offer, designed to meet your specific needs and ensure your satisfaction.
ENGLISH LESSONS
Our free English classes are run by qualified (volunteer) ESOL teachers. Lessons take place on Mondays and Thursdays alongside our drop-in sessions. We offer classes from pre-beginner level through to intermediate. The classes are not accredited but we aim to help learners progress to a level where they can participate in college or further education classes.
If you would like to join an English class you will need to complete an assessment. ESOL assessments take place on Mondays from 10am-12pm. Please come along to the Centre drop-in on a Monday to sign up.
“When I arrived in the UK I didn’t speak a word of English, but thanks to your lessons,
today I am starting to be able to get by in English, little by little.”
GENERAL SUPPORT
During our Monday and Thursday drop-in sessions, we offer a General Support Service (ie. non-immigration advice) for refugees and asylum seekers. You can get support with the following (for example):
- Explaining/interpreting letters
- Registering with a GP
- Support with Universal Credit applications
- Applying for Travel Documents
- Offering support/advice with Council Tax issues
- Welfare benefit applications
- Refugee Integration Loan applications
- HC1/HC2 (NHS) applications
- NHS debt
Our general support advisers can also signpost you to other organisations for help with many other issues.
“It’s a great Centre, the staff are very welcoming.”
DROP IN
Our drop-in takes place twice a week (Monday and Thursday) between 10am and 2pm. During the drop-in sessions we offer refreshments and we try to provide a hot lunch when we can. Here, you can meet and make new friends and be part of our Centre Community.
We also have some free donated clothes and toiletries. If you need clothing and toiletries, please come along to our drop-in sessions and we may be able to help you with the following: jumpers, coats, trousers/jeans, skirts and dresses, t-shirts and some children’s clothing. We occasionally have shampoo, conditioner, soaps and shower gel etc. Donate to us – good quality used clothing, or new toiletry items.
Welcome Wednesday
On Wednesdays, we offer a range of activities at the Centre. Currently you can join a creative writing class or Your Space, our women’s discussion group. We are continuously adding to the activities that we offer and are working closely with our Client Involvement Group to develop our Welcome Wednesdays.
