- Notre Dame Refugee Centre
Just a bus fare makes ALL the difference
Just before the festive season, we launched our fundraising appeal to increase travel money so our visitors can access our Centre in Central London. Our page will remain open until the end of February so it is not too late to contribute! ๐
Notre Dame Refugee Centre in Leicester Square provides a lifeline to refugees and asylum seekers. Its users - from all over the world - are the victims of persecution, discrimination, war, trafficking, climate change and economic inequalities. NDRC is one of the first places they turn to when they reach the safety of the UK. In many cases, itโs the only place they turn to.
Our drop-in centre, a second home for many, provides visitors with essential social and emotional support. Its cafรฉ area offers a cheerful welcome, friendship, refreshments and lunch, and many of its guests take advantage of counselling, English language tuition, IT training, art therapy, dance and exercise classes.
The period since March 2020 has been extremely challenging for Centre users, who have suffered even greater anxiety, loneliness and isolation. With the cost of living increasing, refugees and asylum seekers suffer disproportionately. Many of those who were our regular visitors can simply no longer afford to travel into Central London to get the services they need.
Thatโs why weโre making this appeal. 100% of the funds raised will be used to enable users to travel to the Centre on public transport. A ยฃ20 donation, match-funded, will enable a refugee or asylum seeker to attend the Centre for a month. And that month could make all the difference to their current and future lives.
ALL THEY NEED IS THE BUS FARE
